I just completed my Master of Arts in Humanities on August 15, 2014. My thesis/creative project was entitled Maternal Grief: A Heuristic Inquiry. This inquiry examines the question: What is the experience of grief as expressed through art and writing by a mother after the loss of her child? The literature review examines the topics of grief, art therapy, and the art of German Expressionist, Kathe Kollwitz. A heuristic inquiry of my personal grief is also presented, including my art and writing.
I want to further my knowledge on the topic so that I can reach out to others and provide support. My son died of SUDEP (sudden unexplained death in Epilepsy), and I want to act as an advocate to promote SUDEP awareness as well.

My background is in the area of counseling, although presently, I have devoted most of my time to being a stay at home mother. I am a writer and have assisted families with eulogy and obituary writing and enjoy facilitating Rites of Passage on occasion. I am interested in this training for a whole host of reasons – I first learned of the work of Elisabeth Kubler-Ross through my father – who was instrumental in establishing a Palliative Care Program at St. Mary’s Hospital in Montreal. He is now 90 years old and is assisting yet again, in another Palliative Care project in Wasaga Beach, Ontario.
I would like to combine all my passions – for people, for the cycle of life – even in death,…for ‘story-catching”, for writing,…. and for practicing compassion – and this seems to be a training that can help me achieve that.

Peaceful Touch Massage Therapy
My work is to offer compassionate listening and peaceful touch to support each individual’s healing. As a massage therapist, I know personally and professionally that all forms of trauma, including traumatic grief, are stored in our bodies. The capacity to feel safe, to relax and to recover a sense of peace are fundamental to integrating traumatic experiences. I believe that each of us has a healing wisdom and as a practitioner, I draw on various modalities to cultivate that connection.
