I am very honored to be interning at the MISS Foundation this year. I am currently in my first year of the Masters of Social Work program at Arizona State University. I am focusing my studies in trauma and bereavement. I have been drawn to those who experience a traumatic death since my childhood when I lost my mother at the age of nine. I received support in surviving the experience with a counselor, whose name and face I don’t even remember, and have wanted to turn around and share the same strength that she gave me. My goal in life is to one day become a faceless person for someone else that just remembers the support I gave them while were going through their own journey.
I have worked in several different areas over the years. I have mentored youth in an academic program where we worked together to either build a robot or create an animation (yes I am a nerd). I also worked with youth that were considered at risk and/or in the state system. I enjoyed working with these youth one on one and helping them with not only a support system but also life skills. Most recently I have worked at domestic violence shelters, supporting women and families in overcoming the impacts of domestic violence. I have loved each of these different areas that I have worked in and look forward to now getting more involved in the area that really made me want to get into this field.
Thank you for letting me be here with y’all!
