Volunteer, Moderator for Kids In Sympathy and Suport Board, Facilitator, Children's Grief Group, Arizona
Being an advocate and crisis specialist working with the elderly, homeless, and victims of domestic violence and rape has been Robin's passion for over twenty years. Then in 1997 Robin's grandson Jared died. She was concerned about how her four-year-old grandson Caleb was dealing with the death of his brother. Robin became interested in learning how to help children who have suffered the loss of a loved one in their life. Thus began a commitment of study and facilitation of children's grief groups. The New Song Center for Grieving Children and Those That Love Them was where Robin first started her training as a facilitator in 1998. She has facilitated groups of all ages for them on both the east and west side of the valley. Robin met Joanne through the S.I.D.S. Alliance and when the MISS Foundation groups started forming Robin was asked to run the children's group. She now creates the curriculum and activities and leads the children's group at Community Church of Joy. In 2002 Robin became a core counselor for Camp Paz A Retreat to Remember for children who have lost a loved one. Robin also conducts annual grief workshops for the Organ Donor Network. It was at Glendale Community College that Robin received an Associate's Degree with honors in Social Work and from Western International University a Bachelor of Arts Degree with honors in Behavioral Sciences. She is currently completing an advanced certification in Behavioral Health specializing in Grief and Bereavement. Robin has been acknowledged for countless hours of community service and has received many awards and recognitions. Her favorites are when she was presented with The Arizona Attorney General's Award for Excellence as the Outstanding Sexual Assault Volunteer in 2001 and when she was picked out of 7,000 employees as the Coyote's Volunteer of the Year Award in 2000. There are many other interests in Robin's life but one that is at the top of the list is going to a Diamondback's game. “I love spending time with family and being at a D'back's game is the perfect place!” She also loves to spend time with her grandchildren Caleb and Lauren, do yoga, quilt, read and garden. Robin's wish is that her work with individuals who have suffered trauma in their lives lets them know that they are not alone and that there is hope. Robin
moved from Connecticut to Phoenix in 1977 with her husband Ed, and
son Jonathan. Two years later her daughter Meghan was born. The
following years were dedicated to child rearing, which included
teaching her children to be of service to others. She is proud that
both her children, as adults, are in helping professions. Jonathan
is an R.N. and Meghan works with teen-age girls who are suffering
from eating disorders.
